Veteran television, investment banker and new media executive Max Goldenson, daughter of ABC Network founder and television pioneer, Leonard Goldenson, has formed MWG Entertainment (MWG), a multi-platform global digital production company. Ms. Goldenson, who will serve as President and Executive Producer, stated that MWG will collaborate with leading film and television talent to develop, produce and distribute original series’ on multiple platforms including the Internet, mobile devices and web-to-TV set top boxes. MWG will monetize its content through ad sales, sponsorship and brand integration.
MWG's first project is "My Two Fans," a fictional 16-episode web series and musical that follows the life of an average late 20’s single woman, Kate Maxwell, as she rebounds from a broken heart with the help of her two fans. The series will premiere on March 9th on a record number of online sites simultaneously including YouTube, Blip.tv, Veoh, iTunes and Sling.com.
Ms. Goldenson also announced the appointment of Robert Kandle as Vice President of Development. Mr. Kandle began his career at the William Morris Agency and subsequently worked with Robert Altman collaborator David Levy and, after that, launched Smog TV Studios, an internet production company geared to indie filmmakers. He most recently executive produced a feature film, as well as an internet web series. He has been actively involved in the development of “My Two Fans.”
Lauren Iungerich (who has written projects for The Weinstein Company, CBS Studios, The CW, Fox 21, ABC Family, Akiva Goldsman, Mel Gibson and Raja Gosnell) is the Creator and Director of the series. “My Two Fans” stars Barret Swatek ("Quarterlife," "7th Heaven") as Kate, a single woman navigating the brutal world of dating. Kate is shadowed by her "two fans" - Franklin (Todd Felix/"The Mentalist") and Teddy (Bill Escudier/"The Comeback," "Bones") who, as fans (not friends) insert themselves into Kate's life, root her on through life's ups and downs and clean up her dating disasters.
“The formation of MWG allows me to create a company for the digital age just as my father created one for the analog age,” Ms. Goldenson said. "Our business model targets the under-served adult female audience that is internet-savvy and hungry for entertaining and accessible programming. As the first of what we hope will be many projects for this target audience, ‘My Two Fans,’ created by Lauren, is witty and topical, and could be a potential goldmine for sponsors looking to target a rapidly growing and very desirable audience."
Ms. Goldenson added, “I am also delighted that we have attracted Robert to our company. He is a very talented and experienced executive who has worked closely with me on the slate of projects we are assembling.”
Mr. Kandle stated, “The opportunity to work with Max was a very attractive one. We have many things already in the works and ‘My Two Fans’ is primed for a successful launch. Our goal is to be an artist-friendly company and one that will push the envelope in sculpting the future of professionally-produced content in the New Media landscape."
